The debts of fledgling Limerick 37 are to be looked at as the club is in the process of being taken over by an American lawyer, and businessman, whose grandfather was from Killaloe.

And, as reported in last weeks Limerick Independent, the FAI is to give it’s full support to promoting the game in the city and county.

The latest developments mean that League Of Ireland football is certain to be granted a license to operate but the nw owner could not be definite as to whether the club will continue to be known as Limerick 37 or will operate under a different title.

But it is good news for the game in the regional.

Jack McCarthy, from Princeton, New Jersey, is to be the new club owner and in the coming weeks it is hoped to appoint a CEO to run the day to day affairs.

A life-long soccer enthusiast he said “My first priority is to bring stability to the club and to develop it strategically. It will be a case of run before you walk. I will be honest and transparent”

Mr. McCarthy said he was already looking for a CEO to run the club on a day to day basis. “Ideally I would like to have the person appointed within a few weeks but realistically it will probably taken ten to twelve weeks”.

He said that he will be taking a “hands-on” approach and will be a regular visitor as “thankfully Aer Lingus still fly to and from New York from Shannon”.

Mr. McCarthy added “I have reached agreement in principle to take over the club subject to due diligence and preparation of a debt management plan. The challenge of developing Limerick 37 into a top soccer club is one that excites me and for the club to be successful it must integrate with all strands of football in the Limerick area”.
