There are 11 hundred voting screens and pooling boots stored in the facility. The Department of Environment went around and asked each returning officer if they wanted the machines removed to another facility in Meath.

“I asked for priority because of our space issues. I couldn’t physically work in there. You were met at the front door by the machines so it was impossible to do our work,” Mr meghan said.

The total cost to date in developing the machines is €60m.

In addition, the storage costs were €706,000 in 2006; €696,000 in 2005 and the sum of €658,000 in 2004.

There is also the €254,000 incurred in transferring the equipment to Gormanstown.
