The popular tourist outlet-famous among American and European tourists was completely gutted by the blaze, which got underway just after 8 o’clock on the night.

The building is situated close to the historic Bunratty Castle, which was lucky to escape the blaze.

Fire crews from Limerick and Clare fought the blaze for over four hours and the fire was eventually brought under control and no one was injured.

However one ambulance did remain at the scene while fire crews fought the blaze.

The Avoca store is located next to Bunratty Castle just off the N17 dual carriageway on the Limerick to Galway road and employs between 30 and 40 people.

Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the fire is asked to contact Shannon Gardai on 061-361212.
