Garda investigations are being conducted in Limerick following the deaths of three people and the treatment of more than half-a-dozen people in hospital after a weekend of serious road crashes.
Two Polish men died after the car in which they were travelling was in a collision with a parked lorry causing the car’s front seat passenger to be killed instantly. The driver of the car died later at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital.
A Garda Press Officer said that Gardai were satisfied there were only two men in the car at the time of the crash. The road was closed for several hours while a full technical examination was carried out, the results of which are still being analysed. The driver of the car was named as 31-year old Polish national Adam Zajac, with an address in Castletroy. The front seat passenger who was killed instantly was also a Polish national, named as 30-year old Tomasz Stelmaszczuk, also with an address in Castletroy. Gardai at Ballingarry are also investigating a two-vehicle fatal road traffic collision at Downes, Ballingarry at 9.45pm last Friday. The collision involved a van and an SUV (sports utility vehicle), which was carrying a woman. The driver of the van, who was the only occupant, according to Gardai, was killed in the crash. The body of the 20-year old male was removed to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital for a post mortem.
A major emergency response by local ambulance and fire units as well as local Gardai was put in place. Anyone with information regarding the separate car accidents over the past weekend is asked to contact the investigating Garda Stations. |
