An investigation is underway into the tragic death of a teenager who was a patient at the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Dooradoyle on Sunday morning.

The HSE confirmed to the Limerick Independent that the 19-year old man was admitted as an emergency appendectomy patient” to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital, Limerick, last weekend.

“After a routine operation he was returned to a ward in a stable condition but suffered an apparent cardiac arrest at 6.20am,” the HSE statement read. A resuscitation team was immediately summoned and the young man was pronounced dead at 7.10am.

A post mortem was performed but further tests are now being carried out to determine what actually happened.
