A man was killed in a suspected gas explosion at a house in County Limerick this Tuesday morning. The Limerick City Ambulance Control Centre, based in Dooradoyle, and the Limerick City Fire Service Communications Control Centre, both received alert calls to attend the incident shortly after 11.30am on Tuesday morning. Gardai based at Bruff were also alerted to the scene at Lough Gur—a well known beauty spot popular with tourists. It is understood that the dead man, a foreign national, had been renting a house in the area between Lough Gur and Holycross, which is situated off the old main Limerick-Cork road, two miles from Bruff. The house where the explosion occured was said to have been badly damaged in the blast. "We are investigating the circumstances surrounding the explosion and what happened here. It looks like a gas explosion at this stage and one man has been pronunced dead," a Garda spokesperson told the Limerick Independent. Gadai were understood to be searching the area where the explosion occured for anyone elese that might have been involved in the incident. A full scale technical examination of the scene was being carried out by a Garda 'Scenes Of Crime' Unit based in the city. |
