Junior Chamber Limerick will set sail on a charity cruise on July 4 to raise funds for the Niall Mellon Township Trust.
All will get aboard the ‘Spirit of Killaloe’ cruise boat, and set sail for Garrykennedy taking in the scenic views on either side of Lough Derg. Food and entertainment will be provided in Garrykennedy and the return journey will be made by bus back to Limerick. According to local junior chamber president, Olive Duffy, “based on past years’ cruises, great fun will be had by all” and the money raised will go to the trust, which is the organisation’s nominated charity for 2008. “I would like to thank all who have bought tickets already, provided spot prizes, and to the hard-working committee behind this successful fundraiser,” she added. Pat Butler, who works in Limerick City Council’s architects department will be heading to South Africa this autumn with the Niall Mellon Township Trust but first must raise €5,000 to assist the trust in its extensive building programme. The cruise aims to raise some of the funds needed to assist the project and Mr Butler will also be accompanied by many other local individuals, engineers, tradesmen and volunteers from the Limerick area. The Niall Mellon Township Trust was established in 2002 to provide homes to the impoverished communities in the townships in South Africa.
In the first year of operation the trust built 150 homes and in 2007, 7,000 homes were built for some of South Africa’s poorest people. The cruise is an all-ticket affair and these cost €40 and are available, with further information, on 087-3162251. |
