One of the highlights of Mental Health Week 2007 was the revelation that Words Can Fly with the launch of a compilation of poetry and prose by local organisation, Le Chéile.

Words Can Fly was written by members and volunteers of Le Chéile- which offers an outlet to those who have had difficulty in coping- and was launched by local dignitaries in the Hilton Hotel last Sunday night.

The contributors read their work to those gathered and the writer David Rice also said a few inspirational words.

Project Manager, Margaret O’Brien, said that the book was written by members of the project’s creative writing group, which meets weekly with co-ordinator Colin Frawley at at St John’s CYMS in Upper William Street.

Members of Le Chéile art classes and Contact Studio Artists contributed drawings and paintings for the book.

The project was formed in 2003 and other initiatives include workshops in drumming, drama and pottery as well as informal social evenings for young people and adults.

Words Can Fly ties in with other events for Mental Health Week and its theme of creativity.
