AN ICT expert has urged Limerick Leaving Certificate students to
consider a career in computing, insisting that there are “thousands of
jobs” available.
The head ICT at Tipperary Institute and Limerickman, James Greenslade, has advised students to “give serious consideration” to a career in the sector and “will almost be guaranteeing themselves a job once they graduate”. Â “We are currently in the grip of the worst recession in history and one would imagine that there are no jobs available, but the reality is altogether different in computing. Online recruitment websites will show that there is anything up to 5,000 jobs available nationwide and while the real figure may be less, the opportunities in this sector far outweigh others and will continue to for a long time to come,” he said. “For local students the case is exactly the same. Jobs are available for graduates and we have the courses in place at Tipperary Institute so we are now redoubling our efforts, in the same way as all other third level colleges are, to make leaving cert and mature students aware of the almost unparalleled employment opportunities there are in this sector.” He added that “the last window for CAO Change of Mind is May 5 to July 1 and we would urge leaving certs to give serious consideration to computing as their career”. |
