Limerick’s Live 95FM has been short-listed for two prizes at the prestigious Phonographic Performance Ireland (PPI) Awards on October 19.

The local station will battle it out with national, regional and local broadcasters for the honours in two separate categories.

The first nomination is for news coverage of the tragic injuring of Gavin and Millie Murray in a petrol bomb attack and this is in Group B: News and Sports Programming.

The second nomination is for the documentary on Thomond Park for Limerick Lives in Group C: Speech Programming

95FM CEO David Tighe said that he and all the station staff are delighted at the nominations.

“It’s fantastic that all the hard work by our staff is being recognised by members of the radio industry. It’s nice to get recognition but the most important recognition comes from our listeners. They are voting for us every day; 95FM is the top local station and I want to thank them for that.”

He added that both nominations also proved that there is much more to 95FM than music.

“We’re the only radio station that can give Limerick a Limerick news service. Joe Nash and all the news team take great pride in ensuring balance, fair play and sensitive news coverage. Limerick Lives runs once a month and offers an insight into valuable subject matter. The Thomond Park programme was based around a current story but also covered historical aspects,” he said.

The efforts will be judged on the criteria of innovation, presentation, value and production quality.
