Thirty-six local organisations are continuing to highlight their respective good causes this week as they compete for text votes to win a share of the €120,000 on offer through 12 bank branches as part of the AIB Better Ireland programme. Voting will be open until June 6 but a variety of groups, schools and charities are setting out their stalls to garner as many texts as possible. One such short listed organisation is the Blue Box Creative Learning Centre, which works with vulnerable young people and families in Limerick City and environs. General Manager, Mark Lloyd, explained that what the centre does is “to place therapists in pre-schools, primary schools and secondary schools to provide a space for young people who cannot fulfil their potential due to a variety of social, emotional or psychological issues”. “If a child suffers from a bereavement, from ADHD or perhaps from neglect or emotional abuse there are very few resources available to help that child overcome or come to terms with that trauma. The Blue Box Creative Learning Centre, by positioning a free service in schools and in the community is responding to this need.” He added “this year we will work with over 500 young people and families in the city, across over 20 centres of education”. To help the Blue Box to continue its good work, text ‘ENNISRD’ and ‘B’ to 53099. Texts cost 60 cent. Another organisation which has been canvassing is the Hospital Family Resource Centre, which is hoping to use the funds for its “after school childcare service” and to help this worthy cause, text ‘HOSPITAL’ and ‘A’ to 53099. Each county and city bank branch has short listed three nominees and they range from ADAPT to the Lough Gur Area Project To see a full list of local organisations, visit your local branch or see www.aibgroup.ie, for the relevant code and number. |
