Conor Nestor was officially unveiled as the FAI Development Officer last week in front of FAI top brass and former Republic of Ireland star, Packie Bonner and through partnership with Limerick Co Council.

“I am absolutely delighted with my new position and have already got stuck into the job. I know that football is important to the people here so it’s great to get plenty of support in the community. I am particularly looking forward to working on programmes in disadvantaged areas, developing women’s football and the coach education programme.”

Nestor has been involved in local football from a young age, and played with Foynes AFC from schoolboy level through to Junior level in the Desmond District League in West Limerick representing the League at Under 14 level.

He has also gained a vast coaching experience spending four years with Foynes AFC and he has coached the Desmond District League Academy team and Interleague team and worked with the NUI Maynooth Fresher team.

After bringing back his coaching skills from New Jersey, where he worked for an American based coaching academy where he coached girls and boys of all ages, Conor is currently in the process of obtaining a UEFA B Licence.

His new position will also involve ensuring that the FAI achieves its core objectives in Limerick by ensuring delivery of the FAI Development Plan and the promotion of social inclusion through football.

“Conor is the perfect man for the job. He is 100% committed to promoting football in Ireland and will help the Association achieve its many objectives for improving football in Limerick. I wish Conor the very best of luck in his new position and I have no doubt that he will do a fantastic job. His experience in football to date ensures that he is more than qualified for the role,” said Packie Bonner, FAI Technical Director.

The Cathaoirleach of Limerick County Council, Councillor Kevin Sheahan, said that appointment of Conor Nestor is another positive example of Limerick County Council’s commitment to sport.

“Limerick is rapidly being considered the sporting capital of Ireland because of its passionate devotion to all sports. The appointment of Conor Nestor to the new position is one that soccer in the county will benefit greatly from,” said Cllr Sheahan.

“I would like to congratulate the FAI for its continued great work in improving standards within the game all over County Limerick,” said Limerick Co Manager, Ned Gleeson.

“The partnership with local authorities has added to the development of football around the country,” said FAI Grassroots Manager, Liam McGroarty.
