THE Limerick Independent has learned that Gardaí recovered a car and arrested a man on Monday for questioning about an armed robbery on Castleconnell Post Office last Wednesday. A silver Toyota Celica car, which Gardaí believe was used by the gang, was found partially burnt out in Raheen. The man arrested was later released without charge, however a file on the matter has been prepared for the consideration of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The silver sports car was seen speeding away from the post office in Castleconnell shortly after 9am last Wednesday following the armed robbery. Three masked men, armed with a sledgehammer and a hatchet, entered the premises at around 9am, threatened a female staff member and escaped with an undisclosed sum of cash. The raiders’ getaway car was last seen heading towards Daly’s Cross on the Dublin Road. Gardaí are looking for three other men in connection with the robbery and are following a “definite line of enquiry”. It’s understood the gang smashed through a security door at the post office before escaping with the contents of the till. Gardai believe there was four men involved including the driver of the getaway car, which was pursued for a short time by Gardai. Anyone who may have information is asked to contact Castleconnell Garda Station on 061-377105 or Henry Street Garda Station on 061-212400. |
