Christ The King Boy's School in Caherdavin has put in a massive effort effort in applying for a Green Flag this year, with the student led 'Green Team' making the whole campus environmentally friendly. Thirteen boys chosen from second to sixth class, have co-ordinated the campaign since last September and it is hoped that the result will be the school recycling more waste and paying less for disposal. Ian Graham, of the school's environmental committee, outlined the intensive campaign. "So far this year we have had a very successful anti litter poster competition. The winners were awarded with book tokens sponsored by the Parents Association. All areas of the school are monitored on a daily basis and bird tables are being erected," he said. All waste paper is recycled or shredded and the policy of not putting waste sandwiches and fruit into bins has been successful so far. "We have had a guest speaker Joanna Gammel from the Limerick County Council Environment Department and all the schoolyards have been tidied up and are now free from litter," he added. Tree planting by all classes has taken place in the school grounds and all biodegradable matter is now composted. "We are grateful to all the boys who are helping our school to be clean and green and creating a better environment for all," said Mr Garvey. |
