The Franciscan Friars of the Renewal based in Moyross are inviting members of the public to visit an exhibition in Watch House Cross Library about the recent live Nativity and Passion plays staged in the estate.
Brother Martin said that ‘The Cross, the Crib and the Eucharist’ consists of recently recorded poetry by Limerick poet, Aubry De Vere, as well as a Powerpoint presentation and photos of both events.
He added that the friars are appealing for a space in the city to put the exhibition—possibly in an expanded form—on display after it finishes its run in the library on May 17. “I’m a photographer and I always had an interest in doing an artistic project like this. Over a year ago, a brother who was ordained as a priest got a number of artists together and put on a show in his hometown in Germany. We thought it would be interesting to do an exhibition here,” he said. As always, he said that the project was a group effort and thanked all involved. “We got a lot of help from John and Sarah Pollard, our friends Robin and Susannah and Impact Theatre Company. Limerick City Council and Limerick Youth Service made the crosses and cribs. Another friend in Waterford printed the photos and prisoners in Limerick Prison made some of the frames used. Some local people helped us to set it up,” he added. “Anyone can go to the library and ask to see it but we’d be happy to give anyone a tour if they would like.”
Br Shawn, Fr Sylvester, Br Martin, Fr Paulus and Br Seraphim were invited to the city last year by Bishop Donal Murray because he saw the spiritual renewal of the community as equally important as the physical rebuilding and St Patrick’s Friary can be contacted on 061-458071. |
