Munster 25-35 year olds are optimistic about their futures, but nearly one-in-five do not feel in control of their lives, according to a survey commissioned by O2 to coincide with the launch of its new flexible bill pay price plan O2 Clear.
The survey of 130 25-35 year olds from Limerick, Clare, Tipperary, Cork, Kerry and Waterford, found that while 89% are positive about their personal futures, on a day-to-day basis, many struggle with time and financial pressures.
According to the survey, it is money and work that causes 25-35 year olds the biggest amount of stress. When it comes to improving their lives, 51% say getting a better handle on their finances would be their main priority. However, 65% admit that they are spenders rather than savers and 30% say they aren’t good at budgeting their money every month. Work/life balance is also an issue for this generation, while 71% say they would like to have a better work/life balance and 14% believe they don’t have a work/life balance at all. According to lifestyle expert and BBC TV presenter, Jay Hunt, the survey shows that many 25-35 years olds should take the time to think clearly about the changes they can make in managing their time and money so they can have a better work/life balance and less stress. “This generation appears to be under significant time and financial pressure, but it doesn’t take too much effort to take control of your life simply by reviewing how you work, what you do with your time, and what you spend each month. Taking action to improve these areas will result in a better bank balance and more time to do the things you really want to do,” Ms Hunt said. The survey also found that when this age group spend money it is acutely conscious of doing so wisely with 89% saying that value for money is important to them when making purchasing decisions.
According to the survey Munster’s youth also have “a plan for their lives with the vast majority having set goals for themselves for the coming 12 months and over the next three years, and 37% setting five year targets,” the survey said. |
