Six people were arrested on yesterday morning in connection with the murder of James Cronin, from Ballinacurra Weston in April this year.

The body of the 20-year old was discovered by Gardai in a shallow grave on April 7th last.

Gardai had been carrying out searches as part of an investigation into two shootings that took place in Limerick two days beforehand.

The body was half buried in a field at Caledonian Park on the south side of Limerick City and a subsequent post mortem by the State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy, concluded that the 20-year old died from a single shotgun wound to his head.

No one has been charged with the killing, which Gardai believe was related to ongoing gang feuds in Limerick.

Yesterday, six people were arrested by Gardai in relation to the killing.

One of the six is a 16-year old male, who was detained along with two other men in their early 20s and three women, also aged in their early 20s.

All six were arrested in the Weston area of Limerick, near to where James Cronin’s body was found in April this year.

The six suspects are been held at Garda Stations at Henry Street, Mayorstone Park, and Roxboro Road in Limerick City and at Askeaton Garda Station in Co Limerick.

They are been questioned under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act and can be held for up to seven days without charge.
