Limerick rugby fans travelling on a flight from Shannon to Stansted were involved in a major mid-air drama when the plane dropped thousands of feet out of the sky after another plane reportedly crossed right under its path, causing the pilot to go into an “emergency descent”.
Terrified passengers described how the plane plummeted downward, activiting the aircraft’s oxygen masks, before landing, flanked by six fire tenders.
“One man had to be treated for more than half an hour on board the plane. Fellow passengers said he passed out after failing to get enough oxygen.” “Some passengers alerted the air hostess that their masks weren’t working and some were hurrying around to different seats in a panic trying to get an oxygen mask,” said passenger Jennifer Ahern from Mungret. “Three fire brigardes flanked the plane on either side of it as we landed and paramedics boarded the plane and assisted a man who had trouble breathing. We were kept on the plane for 15 minutes while they treated him”. “My boyfriend said he saw a plane fly under us. A couple of minutes later the plane dropped out of the sky. Ryanair gave us no answers. No apology. “The plane defintiely swerved. I have worked in the airline industry and I immediately assumed there was a plane in our path as our plane dropped very quickly," said Thomas Foley, Mayorstone. “My natural reaction was the plane dropped because it was on a collision path I couldn’t see any other reason,” Mr Foley added.
“As we got off the plane I heard an announcement that the same plane would be delayed by 40 minutes. I thought Jesus there not going to fly that plane again,” Ms Ahern said. “15 minutes before landing, cabin indicators showed a drop in pressure and oxygen masks were deployed. The Captain informed passengers and undertook a controlled descent. The aircraft made a safe landing in Stansted where all passengers disembarked normally,” Ryanair said. |
