With the outbreak of World War 1, Scouting finds itself providing support on the home front with many valuable tasks. Over twenty three thousand scouts are involved in assisting the Admiralty’s coastguards on the east coast, while many others provide support through delivering important notices about the war effort to the local community, helping families of men employed in defence duties and much more. Scouts were thanked for the valuable work they were doing and for living up to the motto “Be Prepared”.

32nd Limerick St Pauls

10 scouts from the group took part in the annual Scouting Ireland Liffey Descent Race last Sunday, September 23.

The race distance was 8 miles, starting above Lucan and taking in 5 weirs including two of the largest weirs on the Liffey, (Wrens Nest and Palmerstown) with the race finishing in Island Bridge.  The ESB released 2 Megawatts of water into the Liffey from Leixlip Dam.

This volume of water made for a challenging race for participating scouts. All scouts taking part had attained a minimum of level 2 kayak proficiency based on Irish Canoe Union standards. The average age of the scouts from the 32nd Limerick was 13 years. The Limerick Scouts travelled to Dublin the day before the race for a practice run on some of the larger weirs. All 10 Scouts from the 32nd Limerick completed the course and finished well up the field in their various age groups. They stayed overnight in the 1st/10th Kildare Leixlip Scout Hall and were entertained by Scouts from Leixlip.  A great night was had by all and new friendships made.

42nd Limerick Meelick

The Scout Group had a very successful fundraiser recently The Leaders Committee Parents and Scouts spent the day bag packing in Dunnes Stores in The Jetland shopping centre.

We would like to thank everyone who helped on the day and also the management of Dunnes Stores for the opportunity to raise much needed funds. The Beaver colony went on a nature walk at there meeting last week, collecting all things interesting of a nature context.
