The singer, who
has had a string of Number One chart hits and sell-out shows across Europe,
will come to Limerick for one night only on the Sunday of the Bank Holiday
Weekend.
The
concert—organised by MOR Promotions and Spin Southwest—hopes to build on the
success of other recent events held in the arena including two Ladbrokes ‘Fight
Nights’ featuring Andy Lee and the World Baton Twirling Championships.
Mike O’Regan of
MOR said that tickets for the concert will go on sale at €49.50 (including
booking fee) exclusively for local fans at Empire Music, O’Connell Street this
Friday at 9am.
Tickets will then
go on sale nationwide on Thursday September 11.
“The reason why
we decided to hold the concert in Limerick is that there wouldn’t be many
events of this type on in the city. We were prepared to take a gamble. This is
the first concert for the UL Arena but the venue has proven its popularity with
the Andy Lee fights and other events like wrestling. With the new Thomond Park
looking set to become a popular venue too, Limerick has a lot of potential,” he
said.
“Shayne has had
sold-out gigs in Castlebar—just last weekend—and he also played two nights in
the Marquee in Cork recently with 5,000 attending each night. We’re confident
that there’s an appetite for this kind of event and tickets are sure to sell
out in record time.”
Mr O’Regan added
that MOR is also hoping to bring other acts and shows to Limerick in the near
future.
UL Arena manager,
Dave Mahedy, said that the event presents new challenges but he and his staff
are looking forward to hosting this “new venture”.
