SIX people arrested by Gardai based at Roxboro Road last week in connection with the death of a teenager in Limerick have been released without charge.

The four men and two women were arrested in a planned Garda operation over a two-day period between Wednesday, October 29 and Thursday, October 30 last, at a number of houses on the south side of Limerick City.

All six were detained by Gardai including members of the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (NBCI) in connection with the death of Jeffrey Hannon from O’Malley Park.

Mr Hannon, aged 19, was found dead on a green area close to his home on November 22, 2007. He had suffered serious head injuries and was found by a passer-by who had been out walking a dog.

It’s understood that a blunt object of some kind had been used to beat the teenager over the head.

Gardai are still trying to find a motive for the killing, which is a murder investigation.

“Gardai in Limerick have arrested six individuals in relation to the murder of Jeffrey Hannon in Limerick City on the 22nd of November 2007. The operation commenced on 29/10/08 with one arrest and followed with five arrests on 30/10/08. All are from the south city area and are aged in their late teens to early 20’s,” said Sergeant Damien Hogan of the Garda Press Office.

The six people arrested in relation to Mr Hannon’s murder were all released without charge after been held at Garda Stations at Bruff, Co Limerick and in the city at Roxboro Road and Henry Street.

It’s understood that files have been prepared by Gardai for the consideration of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The Limerick Independent understands that a Garda Divisional Search Team and members of the NBCI were also used to carry out searches of a number of areas and premises in the lead up to and following the arrests of the six people.
