The Limerick Independent has learned that a 13 year old girl who was found by Gardai in Co Limerick last Sunday, after she went missing from her home in the North, is still in the Republic being interviewed by specially trained Gardai.

The girl was reported missing from her home in Strabane and that she may have been travelling with a man in his 20s, understood to be from Co Limerick.

Gardai recovered a car at Shannon Airport, which they believe was used by the pair.

The PSNI said they were concerned about the girl’s safety and were liaising closely with the Gardaí.

Members of Newcastle West Gardai who notified the PSNI found the girl at a house in West Limerick.

“The girl is still here in the Republic. Her mother is also here. The girl is been interviewed by specially trained Gardai who are trying to ascertain what exactly happened,” said the Garda source.
