TWO teenagers arrested as part of a Garda investigation into the death
of a man on the south side of Limerick City last week have been
released without charge pending a file to the Director of Public
Prosecutions (DPP).
The two youths were arrested on Monday morning by Gardai probing the death of Mickie Molloy, from Ballinacurra Weston. The 39-year old died at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Dooradoyle on Saturday night last after sustaining a serious injury to his head, a post mortem revealed. The autopsy was carried out by the State Pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy in Limerick late on Saturday last. Gardai believe Mr Molloy was assaulted by two men in a car on Garryglass Avenue, Ballincaurra Weston, last Friday night and had refused to go to hospital after the incident. However the following day his family are said to have noticed Mr Molloy having become unwell. He was then rushed to hospital in Dooradoyle where he was later pronounced dead. A Garda investigation is said to be following a definite line of enquiry, which led to the arrests of two teenagers on Monday. Both were held at Roxboro Road Garda Station and Henry Street Garda Station under Section Four of the Criminal Justice Act. They were each questioned separately and released without charge. A file on the matter is being prepared for the consideration of the Director of Public Prosecutions. Gardai at Roxboro Road have set up an incident room at 061-214340. Anyone with information is asked to contact Gardai in confidence. Mr Molloy is said to be survived by his partner Geraldine, children Mickie, Jamie and Dale, and his mother Pat. |
