HONDA has become the latest car company to cut production at its UK factory as demand continues to fall amid the economic crisis. The Honda move to cut production of the Civic at its Swindon factory 24 hours after Japanese rival Nissan announced cutbacks at its Sunderland plant is seen as similar moves during the recession of the 1970s. Honda will reduce production of the Civic by 22,000 units between December and March next year, reducing full-year production by 10% by cutting one or two daily shifts on the Civic line. The production cut backs announced by both Honda and Nissan follow similar moves by other vehicle manufacturers at their UK factories including Toyota, Ford, Vauxhall, Jaguar, Land Rover and Bentley. |
