Germany’s car industry has changed its stance and is now reported to be backing European Commission plans to slash emissions from new cars. The VDA organisation which represents Volkswagen, BMW, Daimler and other companies, now aims to water down the Brussels proposals. It wants the car companies, not politicians, to define how emission cuts are achieved. EU legislators in Brussels are proposing that average carbon emissions from new cars are cut to 120 g/km of CO2 by 2012, compared with around 160 g/km currently. |
