Virtually unnoticed by many people, Fiat Group Automobiles claims to be on its way to becoming the world’s greenest car company. Fiat claims that it is achieving its goal without penalising drivers, but is working alongside them to add value and enjoyment to a ‘greener’ motoring experience. It however remains outside the hybrid sector in a commercial sense.

Fiat plan to be the most environmentally friendly car company.

Fiat is Europe’s leading compact car maker, by definition the most environmentally friendly automobiles. Fiat also invented the Multijet technology that powers all its new generation turbo-diesel cars and commercial vehicles and offers a previously unimagined combination of performance and fuel economy even on high-performance cars. Other leading car companies who wish to reduce their carbon footprint now use this Fiat technology.

Fiat also claims to be the world leader in technologies that employ vegetable based fuels and natural gas, i.e., methane. Fiat believes that natural gas propulsion is the most appropriate technology available today for built up areas as the benefits are both economic and environmental.

Recently, Fiat has started downsizing its petrol engines, a strategy that’s began with the new 1.4 T-jet engines used in the Fiat Panda, Grande Punto and Bravo model families. A new generation turbocharger, combined with a small (1.4 litre) petrol engine now produces performance levels comparable with much larger engines. In the Bravo range for example both the 120bhp and 150bhp versions use a 1.4 litre T-jet engine.
