While some motorists may wait until July 2008 to get the full environmental and tax benefits of driving a greener car, Fiat claims that anyone buying a new Fiat Grande Punto after January 1st will see and feel the benefits immediately.

Prices for Grande Punto models are due to fall in July when low-emission cars benefit from reduced Vehicle Registration Tax (VRT) rates announced in the recent Budget.

But realising that many drivers would like to drive greener cars as soon as possible, Fiat has announced that the price reductions due in July will now come into effect from 1 January 2008. The result is that prices of new Grande Puntos will fall, by between €250 and €1,250, depending on the model version. The savings, based on engine emissions, will be as follows:

Petrol engines: 1.4 16v - €250; 1.2 8v and 1.4 8v - €750
Multijet Turbodiesel engines: 1.3 75bhp - €1,050; 1.3 90bhp - €1,250

This means that recommended retail prices for Grande Puntos now start at just €13,745 for the 1.2 8v. Actual 3 door model. There are 28 versions of Grande Punto, six of which use 1.3 Multijet Turbodiesel engines. It's worth noting that in addition to these savings, buyers of 1.4 8v 'Active Go' versions already get extra equipment valued at €740 for no extra cost while buyers of the 1.2 8v, 1.4 8v, 1.4 16v Starjet and 1.4 16v T-Jet 'Dynamic Team' versions also get extra equipment, including air con, valued at €1,040 for no extra costs.
