The new Jeep Patriot 2.0 CRD Sport, already winner of a green award, has been named 4x4 of the Year by specialist magazine 4x4 and MPV Driver.

The Patriot, which will be launched in Ireland next month, has been designed to appeal to customers that want a vehicle that is capable on- and off-road but who also want the performance, handling, fuel economy and price of a family hatchback.

The publication recently awarded the Jeep brand the Gold Award in its Green 4x4 awards ahead of all other manufacturers of 4x4s and SUVs. They praised the Patriot as being the most economical 4x4 ever to wear the Jeep badge and the least polluting with its low CO2 emissions compared to manufacturers with smaller vehicles.

The Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot were praised for being "the most economical 4x4s ever to wear the Jeep badge" and for being the least polluting with their CO2 emissions that are lower than several smaller vehicles such as the BMW 116i and Renault Clio 1.6. At the top of the Jeep range, the Grand Cherokee was praised for its 3.0-litre V6 CRD engine which puts its performance and its economy right in the front rank of large SUVs.

Ian Bloomer, Sales Director for Jeep in Ireland, said: "We are absolutely delighted that Patriot has received such recognition just as we are about to introduce the model to the Irish market".
