MAZDA’S new Kiyora is a small city car concept, which was designed to meet the needs of young city drivers.
The car features components that are being developed at Mazda for use in the near future. These include a next-generation 1.3-litre DISI engine, a new automatic transmission, and a rigid and lightweight bodyshell for very high fuel efficiency and low emissions. Mazda claims that the Kiyora’s design supports these technologies with some impressive aesthetic features. The Mazda Kiyora demonstrates how Mazda will achieve a 30% improvement in fuel economy in the near future. The car is claimed to be highly fuel efficient, with a very small CO2 footprint, delivering fun and high levels of safety. The car achieves this by taking Mazda’s lightweight strategy to a new level. This is done by using a rigid and lightweight carbon-fibre body structure beneath a small, aerodynamic outer skin. Allied to this is the thrifty, small-displacement 1.3-litre direct injection petrol engine. Mazda Kiyora would also feature Mazda’s unique Smart Idle Stop System (SISS) and a newly developed six-speed automatic transmission. The transmission has a direct feel and will allow the car to achieve fuel efficiency similar to that of a manual transmission, with CO2 emissions under 90g/km. |
