Some 34 years after the first Scirocco was unveiled, Volkswagen has launched what they term ‘a new Scirocco for a new era’. Scheduled to arrive into Ireland next September, the new two-door Scirocco is a completely re-engineered all-round sports car that they say is both sporty and innovative. ![]() The new Volkswagen Scirocco makes a return to the Volkswagen range and Ireland in September this year. Volkswagen claims that the new Scirocco marries new technology with low running costs while still maintaining dynamic performance with high comfort levels. It boasts such features as adaptive chassis control and 7-speed DSG transmission within the model mix. Thanks to an elongated roof line, the new Scirocco is credited with having a surprisingly spacious interior within an uncompromising sporty design, with ample room inside for four adults. Though prices have yet to be agreed for the Irish market, the new Scirocco is described by Volkswagen as ‘the kind of sports car that people dream of owning and can actually afford’. It will be driven by a selection of four high-torque, low-consumption TDI and TSI engines. When fully available, the Scirocco model offering will consist of three petrol and two turbo diesel versions. Petrol models will start with a 2.0-litre TSI 200bhp unit, with a choice of 6-speed manual and 6-speed DSG transmission. Following soon after will be a 1.4-litre TSI 122bhp unit with 6-speed manual transmission and a 1.4-litre TSI 160bhp unit with 6-speed manual and 7-speed DSG transmission.
Diesel versions begin with a turbo-charged 2.0-litre TDI 140bhp unit with a choice of 6-speed manual and 6-speed DSG transmission, followed by a 2.0 TDI 170bhp unit with a choice of 6-speed manual and 6-speed DSG transmission. |
