New guidelines for satellite navigation systems are to be issued in the UK after a string of incidents in which motorists have been sent the wrong way. The UK Department for Transport is drawing up measures to make satellite navigation companies improve their maps after drivers have found themselves misdirected along narrow lanes. The changes will require satellite navigation developers to provide routes for different types of vehicles. Satellite navigation systems are said to be responsible for 2,000 incidents of lorries hitting railway bridges each year, which leads to millions of euro worth of damage, and traffic delays. |
