Corbally is choking to death! This may sound a tad dramatic but its true and as a resident of Westbury, Corbally I’m sick of having to travel in my car every morning and evening along the only thoroughfare known to Corbally residents as the road to hell.

Traffic is a nightmare across the city but Limerick can now proudly claim its very own ‘mini M50’.

Who’s to blame for the tailbacks? Who is to blame for the painful snail’s pace at which I find myself driving along the Corbally Road every morning to work?

We might first look at Limerick’s planners, the men and women who design and plan how many houses are built in Limerick and how many roads are built to service the people. But it would be wrong to solely target the planners.

It is Government at national level who allocate grants for roads and infrastructure. If the Government thinks the Corbally Road and its surrounding housing constitutes good planning, they have lost their senses.

The present situation is driving motorists crazy every day and the excuses are wearing thin.

Corbally’s design is akin to a scene from the 1986 fantasy film ‘Labyrinth’.

Who thought it would be a good idea to provide only one main road for thousands of people travelling in their cars to and from County Clare, Westbury, Shannon Banks taking in the Corbally National School (don’t get me started), Park Gardens, the Old Mill Road, Irish Estates, Grove Island and finally past the lights at St Mary’s Church.

What’s more annoying still is the so-called Corbally link road known as the ‘Pa Healy Road’, which was promised would deliver motorists from our traffic frustrations. But this road has made the problem worse—yes, worse.

Corbally is choking, and I challenge those in power to start loosening the noose before we all go doo-lally!

Ask Clare County Council for some money for a new bridge as the vast majority who travel that bridge even though working and socialising in limerick pay tax in Ennis.
But they want there name on the UL campus.
Also people knew this problem when buying so don't complain now.

corbally road traffic

in relation to the comment from {barney}, getting rid of places like moyross , st marys park etc doesnt solve the problem of traffic built up along the corbally road , thats a totally different problem altogether. maybe if they do that you will have scum living next door to you, or a decent hard working family from 1 of those areas, which does exist, believe it or not barney..

There are a few organisations that can be blamed for the Corbally Road situation....one of them is the Catholic church in Limerick, when St.Nicholas' Parish (westbury) was created there were no plans for a primary school, so what they did was move the parish boundary to encompass Scoil Ide....Problem solved. Yet for the 1600 houses or so in Westbury, it was never envisaged that they might need a school on their doorstep. So as a result we who use the Corbally road are subjected to one of the worst bottlenecks in the city...that is Scoild Ide. Scoil Ide for their part don't seem to care either....they restrict drop off times and provide nothing that could be seen to help alleviate this situation. The City Council and Clare County Council also have a lot to answer for....but in my opinion Clare County council more so,they granted permission for Westbury, as well other housing estates in Clare such as Ardnacrusha/Clonlara and Carraig Midhe...that have to use the Corbally Road...this puts an awful lot of pressure on the Limerick Road Network, but the Limerick council doesn't get a penny for it as they are all Clare residents, who mostly work, shop and send their kids to school in Limerick...

Corbally choking for not much longer

These traffic problems will only be temporary as the economy slows there should be fewer cars on the road. The planners are always thinking ahead so knew this would happen. Just be patient and wait for unemployment to go even higher.

Raze Saint Mary's Park and build real roads.

Get rid of the knackers, tinkers, thugs and murderer's that inhabit places like St. Mary's Park, Moyross, Balananty and other armpits of limerick, raze the neighborhoods and pave over creating park and ride facilities.

Given up the fight and changed direction !!!!

Coming from Ardnacrusha every morning has now changed from the straight drive very slowly on the Corbally road to drop my kids to Scoil Ide ( Which normally takes me 40 - 45 mins ) to the now more scenic route through Quinpool, then Long Pavement Road, onto New Road in Thomondgate along Island Road then the opposite direction on The Corbally Road to drop kids to school approx 25 mins later !!!!! Crazy - Do the powers that be not understand the word INFRASTRUCTURE.

to blaim???
written by RE: :/, August 23, 2008

Whos to blaim for the shocking incident? Well i can think of one Government organisation... or project "Regeneration" in limerick, or as its called... "De-Generation"

Is it a freak accident or is it just one of many due to happen?
