He had paid his €5,000 for a guaranteed seat when the ground is fully completed. He was unable to get a ticket for the game and was deeply hurt to learn that they had been on sale at a city centre shop that morning.

“Surely,” he moaned, “people like me who have helped finance the branch should, at least, have been notified that tickets had become available at a late stage. After all the impression was given that it was a sell-out.”

I felt sorry for him but his was the sole quibble on a great day for Limerick and Munster. I would love to pay tribute to certain individuals but do so would mean leaving others out and that would be unfair. And land me in trouble.

So well done to all for a great achievement and a superb team performance!

The other morning I was not in a position to answer when the doorbell rang. I discovered a few minutes later that it was the postman who had been looking for me to get me to sign for acceptance of a packet.

Not getting a reply the totally efficient postman left a note to inform me that I could collect the packet by calling to the delivery office.

But the notice also said “registered or surcharged letters are returned to sender after 3 working days, if not collected or delivered”.

Now I find this very high-handed by the postal authorities.

Suppose I was away on holiday and would not be returning for a few weeks.

This has nothing to do with the fine people who work in the postal services locally.

But it is probable that within that time my packet could be returned to the sender.

I would then launch in to a tirade of abuse with the sender, probably accuse them of not sending it in the first instance and a great old row would develop.
