Surely a month should be allowed to pass before anything would be returned from the Limerick depot. I understand that if every letter, packet, or parcel was not collected for a month it would create a major space problem at the local depot.
But to expect somebody who could be in Timbuctoo to make it to collect an item within three working days is asking a bit much. There is something a bit ‘iffy’, I believe, about the manner whereby one RTE person interviews another with it comes to giving a plug to their freelance activities. Recently we had the spectacle of Ryan Tubridy interviewing Mary Kennedy about some book she has written. That was on television and it was so well choreographed that it rendered the item as little more than an unpaid advertisement… except that viewers were paying for the privilege by way of their licence fee. Less than 48 hours later it was the turn of Ronan Collins to be a ‘guest’ on the Mooney Show to plug some CD he has put together about the Showband era. That is all very fine but Collins is aged only 55 which means he was eleven when the first showband to make a record, ‘Come Down The Mountain Katie Daly’ by the late Tom Dunphy with the Royal Showband. Both Mary and Ronan have ample access to airtime in their own programmes to give themselves a free plug. The Director General should put a ban on these internal cosy arrangements. |
