Presumably it will grow again but if she ever reaches my age she will be glad to have every bit of hair she can hold on to! The girl is from Longford and had her hair shaved in Limerick. Does Longford or Limerick get the money from her sacrifice? Then there was the Celebrity Goes Wild television programme. It was won by Michael Healy Rea from Kerry. I cannot figure out what makes him a ‘celebrity’. After all most places have Chairmen of their County Councils nowadays. Granted his Kerry brogue was a big help but everyone in the Kingdom speaks with the same dulcet tones. Charity, thankfully, was the winner but when it comes to choosing celebrities in the future the programme planners should look more carefully for genuine celebrities.
It must have been the worst presented programme ever screened by RTE with even a wrong result being announced on one of the midweek airings. And no effort was made to tell viewers whether the scoring was close or whether those eliminated had polled very poorly.
The whole thing was woeful, which was in stark contrast with the magnificent presentation of ‘Class Act’, which highlighted some marvellous entertainment from Irelands youth. All six finalists were marvellous. I was delighted that the two dancing brothers from Galway won. I love watching Irish dancing in particular and always wonder would I have made the grade had I not broken my leg when trying on new dancing shoes in my early youth. Just think of the slim and trim I might be now if I persevered. Tonight is Halloween and I hope that all children have a wonderful time. But to those who own pets such as cats and dogs I urge them in so far as possible to keep them indoors. Dogs especially suffer from the affects of the loud bangers being exploded all over the city and county. These fireworks terrify the little pets and, of course, can be highly dangerous in the hands of children.
Unlike the St Stephen’s Day collection for when the wren boys and girls in various parts of the city dressed up and went collecting money for various projects, including themselves, at least Halloween continues to be acknowledged. |
