He also called on the Council to “take immediate measures to alleviate the problem of excessive speeding on Courtbrack Avenue, in the interests of residents, pedestrians and motorists”. In a statement the Independent Cllr also said he had called on the Council to “provide appropriate and proper signage for Courtbrack Avenue and Ashbourne Park.” “These special measures will be taken in early 2008 in the interests of all interested parties. The provision of appropriate signage is long overdue,” Cllr Kennedy said.
Limerick Labour TD, Jan O’Sullivan has said that she will not support the “growing division between public and private medicine” during her address at the recent Labour Party annual conference. Last weekend over 1,000 delegates attended Labour’s 62nd annual conference in Wexford with more than 30 delegates from Limerick and Clare. The mid-west members participated in various debates ranging from the “crisis” in the health system, to retention of the Shannon-Heathrow slots, and the need to urgently reform local government. Deputy O’Sullivan spoke of the need for a fundamental change in national health care policy. She stated that Labour had a fundamentally different view on how to address and resolve ongoing problems within the health services and she questioned the ideology now driving health policy in Ireland. The Limerick East TD said she “would not support the growing division between public and private medicine” and that “the fundamental principles of equality of access and treatment were core Labour Party beliefs”.
Delegates also spoke against the Government’s Co-Location plan and how this plan would result in wasteful duplication of clinical services and the fact that there are “less beds now in our hospital system that there was in the 1980s” was “an absolute scandal”.
