Pleanala move is welcomed Limerick West Fianna Fáil deputy, Niall Collins, has welcomed a boost for local employment following a decision by An Bord Pleanála last week.
”It will effectively translate into some 650 construction jobs over the next four year period and that is very welcome news given the slow down in the construction industry in recent months." He added that: “the facility will create some 50 full-time jobs when it is completed". The decision was also welcomed by Deputy Collins’ party colleague, John Cregan TD. Monument restoration under way Limerick Republican Sinn Féin has welcomed the completion of the first phase of the restoration of a Republican memorial on the Ballysimon Road. Joe Lynch of Ballinacurra Weston said that unfortunately “the memorial had been overshadowed by development of an industrial estate on the Ballysimon Road and the memorial had been incorporated into a surrounding wall”. The memorial marks the place where Wolfe Tone Street resident, Captain Michael Danford, of the Limerick IRA Brigade was killed by Free State Forces during the Civil War.
Mr Lynch added that “after discussions and consultations with both Shannon Development, owners of the estate, and planning officials at Limerick City Council, the memorial has been moved to a more prominent position where is can be clearly seen by visitors”. Republican Sinn Féin is now embarking on the second phase—to clean and repair the memorial.
