Page 1 of 4 SF vow to keep Government on their toes Maurice Quinlivan of Limerick Sinn Féin has vowed to challenge the Government at every turn to ensure promised funding is delivered to the new development agencies for city regeneration. In his New Year’s message, Mr Quinlivan pledged to maintain his party’s campaign for a better deal for the communities of Moyross and Southhill, insisting that development plans must be connected to the real needs and wishes of the residents of the respective areas.
“However, the messages from government since the election are less than reassuring. Election promises are disintegrating, and a new era of cutbacks is underway. It is imperative that government promises regarding our city are held to account and that is exactly what I intend to do.” Outlining his party’s priorities for the coming year, he also highlighted the fight against privatisation of the health service and the party’s opposition to the forthcoming EU Reform Treaty Referendum. He said that he is disappointed that Sinn Féin is the only major political party in Limerick who will be campaigning against the EU referendum and he would welcome support from the broader political landscape. “I know many members of the Labour Party, the Green Party and Fianna Fáil who have significant reservations about this treaty. The treaty will bring about the biggest ever transfer of powers from Dublin to Brussels. We are intending to build a broad based local campaign against the treaty and would welcome support and action from all interested individuals, regardless of party affiliation,” he added.
