Seasons Greetings

The commissioner and the team would like to wish everyone a very Happy and Peaceful Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

25th Limerick, Shannon Banks

The Scout and Venture sections visited the log cabin in the forest near Kinnitty in the Slieve Blooms for the week-end. The weather was awful but the group had a great time.

On Friday night things were not bad on arrival but rain and the river nearby was a torrent and crossing it impossible, save for a thin rope crossing between two trees.

The following morning and things had not improved in fact things were worse. We started with the tree and cut it into two sections for removal, and then we had the idea to use the tree to create a new foot bridge to span the river.

I am very proud of all the scouts and venture scouts that put in a massive effort and produced a bridge that I am sure will pass the test of time.

Saturday evening we were shown how the Bronze Age people melted bronze and made axe heads, jewellery and other metal items; we were also treated to a demonstration of an array of ancient swords used by the Celts in ancient times. Sunday morning was worse than Saturday but again the team persevered, completed the bridge and setup a rat slide. We withdrew back to Limerick at 15:00, a wet, tired but ultimately happy bunch. Well done all and a note of thanks to Killaloe Scouts.

26th Limerick, Castleconnell

This is the story of the "Nightmare before Christmas" only joking it's our Beaver trip to Dublin to see Santa Clause in Larch Hill. We left Castleconnell very early on Saturday morning 8th December to travel by bus to visit Elf World and to hopefully see Santa Clause. To pass the time on the Journey, we coloured pictures, watched DVD's (very posh buses in Castleconnell) and sang Christmas songs the beavers just chatted amongst themselves. We arrived at Larch Hill and of course the Leaders had to have TEA to settle their nerves before meeting their personal Elves. These Elves brought us to the magic door which transported us (as quick as a flash) to Elf World in the North Pole.

We all arrived together and visited the Chocolate Factory, face painting factory, the Woggle Factory and other places.

Santa letters were wrote and posted in the Special North Pole Post Box. We then went through the special door which brought us to Santa Doom, but first we have to get past the "Grinch" who tried to stop us from seeing Santa but we got pass him. At last we got to see Santa (I'm not sure who was more shocked) he told us stories and of course that we were on the Good List, he gave us great presents, we gave Santa a Sleeping Bag for those who do not have any homes at Christmas.

When we said goodbye to Santa and the North Pole our quick as a flash journey back to Larch Hill began. It was can you believe it only lunch time and all this travel made everyone enjoy their lunch even more. The leaders on the other hand were as per usual moaning and groaning all the time that they were tired "are we there yet". We left Larch Hill for home very happy Beavers and a stop at McDonald finished a great day.
