Page 1 of 2 Scouting History 1960sChristopher Murphy succeeded Professor Whelehan as Chief Scout in CBSI (1962-1970) while Ernest Judge (1966-1973) was Chief Scout for SAI. A national HQ was opened at 19 Herbert Place and a shop in Dublin, while uniform depots were established in Belfast, Cork and Limerick. To mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of CBSI a national camp attended by 3,000 scouts was held in Lios Mor. Following various meetings of the Irish Scout associations, the Federation of Irish Scout Associations (FISA) was established. The formation was recognised by the World Scout Committee. The 11th World Scout Jamboree (1963) took place in Greece while the 12th World Scout Jamboree (1967) took place in the United States of America. Limerick Scout County Board MeetingThe meeting took place in Caherdavin Scout Den last week, and reports were given by various Coordinators.Before stepping down as county chairperson Michael Ryan (42nd Limerick Meelick) thanked all for their support. Bernadette Brennan (County Commissioner) made a presentation to Mike on behalf of the county for his contribution. Des McKeown (23rd Limerick Caherdavin) was elected as Mike's successor. The treasurer's position was retained by Mary O'Regan (26th Limerick Castleconnell). Guest speakers for the evening were Michael John Shinnock (Chief commissioner for Adult Resources). Johnny Brennan (National Training Commissioner) thanked all for their attendance at courses and singled out Billy Fisher (Training Coordinator) for his hard work in getting these courses and most importantly getting leaders on them. Jimmy O'Donnell (County Support Officer) reminded all that he is only a phone call away. New LeadersJust to keep you informed that there is now a considerable delay in the turnaround time for Garda vetting and it is now taking over eight weeks for vetting applications to be processed by the Garda Central Vetting Unit. |
