A WORLDWIDE games corporation has told the Limerick Independent
newspaper that it is to remove a reference to Limerick as ‘Stab City’
from the next version of one its biggest selling games, which was named
‘Game of the Year 2007’ by the Australian Games Association.
A spokesperson for University Games Corporation in England said that
the American creators of ‘Smart Ass’ were not aware that ‘Stab City’
was a term of offence.
“I believe the game was created by our company in the US and I
understand they were not aware it was an offensive term to use. I
understand that the term will be removed from the next version of the
game,” the spokesperson said.
The controversy began when a family from Fedamore in County Limerick
were playing the game at home when they saw the ‘stab city’ reference
to Limerick on the so-called learning board game for children and
adults.
