AS THE date of Arthritis Ireland’s National Raffle on Tuesday December
2 draws near, the charity is issuing a final call to people from
Limerick to help make a difference to the lives of people with
arthritis and be in with a chance to win one of the fantastic prizes on

staff and volunteers at St. Munchin’s Community Enterprise Centre on
receiving a runner up award in the annual Co-operation Ireland
All-Island Pride of Place Competition.

FORMER Fine Gael Health Minister Michael Noonan has claimed that there
are serious flaws in the proposed Nursing Homes Support Scheme Bill
outlined in the Dail in recent days.
Speaking on the proposed Bill in the Dail, Deputy Noonan outlined a
number of areas which require clarification and explanation by the
Minister for Health Mary Harney.
Deputy Noonan explained that he wanted the Minister for Helath, Mary
Harney, to explain the practical application of the subvention payment.
He stated that in 2007 a total of €205m was paid out by the Department in subventions.

BÓTHAR, the Irish development organisation, is launching its own
campaign for Change and is urging Limerick people to ‘Change the
Present’ this Christmas and choose an alternative gift to help the
world’s poorest people.
The charity—which is based locally—said that in the 2007 Christmas
season alone, gift-givers who bought Bóthar gifts directly impacted the
lives of nearly 20,000 families in need around the world.

Adare, County Limerick has been named Munster Provincial winner in the
recent Bord Bia Chefs’ Lamb competition.
Denis Cregan of popular city restaurant Moll Darby's was also highly commended.

Youth Arts programme.

LOCAL representatives have welcomed a decision by the Government to
reduce the proposed air travel tax for passengers traveling from
Shannon Airport from €10 to €2.
There had been widespread opposition to the tax announced in this
year’s budget—which suggested a €10 charge on flights of more than
300km from the airport—because it was thought that regional airports
were being penalised whereas Dublin Airport was unaffected in most
cases.

LIMERICK City Council is issuing a warning to businesses not to erect
illegal signs in the lead up to Christmas or they risk being fined.
Sinead Mc Donnell, Environment Awareness Officer at Limerick City
Council, said that “dozens of fines have issued this year to companies
who have put up temporary signs at the roadside and on grass verges”.

Michael Kearney, President of The Quarry Players
MICHAEL Kearney became involved in the theatre 30 years ago by
performing on the stage before going to work behind the scenes and the
president of The Quarry Players is currently directing his sixteenth
play for the amateur company.
‘The Lieutenant of Inishmore’ by Martin McDonagh is playing at the LIT
Millenium Theatre this week (running nightly until November 29) and
according to Michael, it will bring “blacker than black comedy” to
local audiences.
