A FOURTEEN-year old boy has told the Limerick Independent that he has seen students in his school in the City stealing knives and making weapons out of pencils and razor blades to use for protection in fights.

Limerick SF funds promotion of confidential anti-drug line

LIMERICK Sinn Féin is launching a local advertising campaign to encourage local people to make reports to the confidential ‘Dial to Stop Drug Dealing’ phone line on Freephone 1800-220220.
Local spokesman, Maurice Quinlivan, described: “the delay” in the roll out to Limerick of the service as “inexplicable”.
“This initiative was successfully piloted in the Blanchardstown area of Dublin more than two years ago. Recently rolled out in the greater Dublin area the freephone number is already proving to be quite successful. The Gardaí claim they have had substantial success in seizing drugs as a result of information received on the non-Garda phone line,” he said.
“From a total of more than 450 calls [nationally] in the first month, it says it has received a total of 141 informative reports many of which had led to a significant number of arrests and a major drugs seizure.” 
 
Kiely hits back at Sinn Fein over policing committee claims

THE chairman of the Limerick City Joint Policing Committee (JPC) has refuted claims by a local Sinn Féin representative that the committee is failing to organise public meetings.
Councillor Kevin Kiely said that while it will consider having more public meetings going forward, there are many opportunities for the public to contribute to its work.
