NORMAL service resumed on the local junior front at the week-end and Regional United remain on top of the premier league though they got a bit of a fright when held to a draw by lowly Wembley Rovers.

THE majority of the Musketeers golf society members are Munster rugby fans and that had a big bearing on selecting the outing for their away trip.
Society secretary Kevin Fitzpatrick told me that he always wanted to go to Athenry.

In the final David defeated the current Irish No.1 raked player Mario Fernandez 2 frames to 0.
This event was the fourth local ranking event of a six event series, designed to provide competitive match practice for all players and it attracted a record entry of 28 local players who were drawn into four groups of seven players.

Happy Christmas Munster

PAUL O’Connell will not be getting any presents from Santa on Christmas morning.
The big Young Munster man was leaving nothing to chance before his team played Clermont at Thomond Park and he had sent an e-mail to the North Pole asking for an early present of a win over the French side.

THERE was FAI Cup success for several local clubs on Sunday when once again the weather spoiled the programmes under the jurisdictions of LDMC and the Desmond League.
All but the FAI Cup games went ahead and hopes are high that the eagerly awaited Oscar Traynor Cup tie between the Limerick District League and the Cork AUL will go ahead as planned at Jackman Patk on Sunday (2pm).

CAPTAINS John Donovan and Anne Malone have driven into office at Limerick GC.
Ms Malone, who succeeds her friend Kathleen Kirby, hit a delightful tee shot off the first, followed by Mr Dononvan who also dissected the fairway.
Next up it was the turn of incoming President Dermot Moloney and he too wasn’t distracted by the enthusiastic attendance as he smacked a great effort off into the distance.
A social nine-hole scramble followed and it was an appropriate send-off for outgoing Captain Martin Leyden who led his team of Bobby Fleming, Andrew Donovan and Aidan O’Connor to outright victory.
 
Society Golf - Cement Christmas outing

THE Limerick Cement golf society held their Christmas outing last Saturday at Charleville Golf Club.
Willie Cusack, their secretary and treasurer, told me that their members, who are all sporting fans, were in a bit of a quandary about the golf, as they also wanted to see the Munster and Clermont Heineken Cup game.
