Toome next up for Limerick champions Adare
WELL-rested Adare will aim to reach a first ever AIB Munster Senior Club Hurling Final when they run-up against Toomevarra of Tipperary at the Gaelic Grounds next Sunday (2pm).
In their three previous excursions in Munster, the Maiguesiders have failed to make significant progress. Last year, however, the Limerick representatives were forced into action of the provincial only a week after their county final triumph over neighbours Croom and it was a leg-weary Adare XV that were narrowly beaten by Loughmore/Castleiney. “At least this year, we’ve had a break between the county final and the Munster Championship,” noted Adare captain Donacha Sheehan.

Munster, the All Blacks and a ‘tale of two balls’
LAST Saturday night I stood on the lower deck of the new East Stand at Thomond Park reminiscing with Tony Ward about the ’78 Munster win over the All Blacks.
“I can’t believe 30 years have gone by,” said Wardy, “it seems like only yesterday. I have great memories of the occasion and how Tom Kiernan was leaving nothing to chance. He got a video from England on the All Blacks’ earlier games and we watched it before the match. Mind you I slipped out a side door halfway through as I hated looking at the opposition before I played them.”

THE somewhat unusual name of Limerick 37 will be no more when the local side next play at Jackman Park. The better sounding Limerick FC returns for next season and thus it was a pity that the last home game, under the present name, ended in defeat when bottom club Kildare County had a 2-1 win last Friday.
Limerick can still have a major say in who gains promotion as they travel to face Shelbourne on Saturday.

Ballysheedy Golf Society
THE Ballysheedy Bar and Steak House have been doing so well in the inter-pub golf competition that they hope to start their own golf society in the new season.
Garoid Murphy, co-owner of the bar with John Ryan, told me they have had a great response from their members and they will be all set to go in April.
Ballysheedy had an excellent outing against the Claughan Bar two weeks ago, and won in the end by three matches to two.
Well known sportsman Eamon Grimes is one of the main men on the team.

ADARE Manor GC managed to host a regular 15-hole Fourball Competition against a catalogue of sporting cancellations elsewhere.
The winning duo with an incredible return of 45 points were regular partners Jackie Harrington and Seamus Dundon, a round that included no less than six birdies. Not surprisingly, the pair were well-ahead of second-placed Michael Hickey with an excellent 40 points, with Paddy Quinlivan and Jack O’Hurley third with the same score.

THE featured Resource Garryowen Plate at Limerick’s Greenmount Park went the way of Harbour View, which represented a fine local success for rising trainer Patrick Hayes of Shanagolden.
Owned by West Limerick businessman Sean Greaney, Harbour View (7/2f), second behind Cochise at Thurles, redeemed the promise of that effort, forging clear between the final two fences for Philip Enright. “It’s great he has come back to form and great to win at your local track,” commented Hayes, an older brother of top flat jockey Chris. The winner finished nine lengths in front of Gripit N Tipit (7/1), with Green Black (14/1) a further five lengths back in third.

GAELIC GAMES
A QUALITY goal from Shane Quinlan in the early moments of the second-half put Patrickswell on course for the retention of their Premier Minor Hurling Championship at Na Piarsaigh’s expense, 1-10 to 1-5, at the Gaelic Grounds.
