FOUR Limerick teams will be involved in the Bulmers sponsored All-Ireland Cups and Shields Finals at Monkstown GC, with action scheduled to get underway this Wednesday morning and continue through until Saturday next.

EQUESTRIAN
LIMERICK’S Captain Shane Carey picked-up the Leading Rider accolade at Prague in the Czech Republic.
He won the speed class with Cashla Bay and also took the young horse final with Ringwood Abbey.  Earlier, the 30-year-old was a mere two seconds off the pace to be placed runner-up with River Foyle in the Grand Prix qualifier.   Elsewhere, Paul O’Shea had a successful outing at Pinerolo, Italy, rounding off his visit with a third in the Grand Prix on the Cavalier-bred Shannondale Macalla.
Earlier in the weekend, O’Shea finished second in an accumulator with Daydream St Ghyvan Z, having already won the Grand Prix Qualifier with the same horse.  He had another second place in a qualifier with Shannondale Macalla.

THREE of the most valuable sweep finals at the Markets Field on Saturday were won by local owners at what was a very successful meeting staged by Claughaun GAA club, a number of whose members are regular attendees at the track.

The Thatch Golf Society has been in existence for the past ten years.
The society was originally formed in the Thatch pub in Fedamore but even though the pub is closed the society has kept playing golf and they have an outing every month.
Mike McNamara is this year’s captain and James Flavin is the vice captain.

Saints strike the right notes to earn a football semi-final place ST SENAN’S have secured their place in the semi-final of the Live 95FM Limerick Senior Football Championship.
It came by way of a slender 0-11 to 0-10 win over arch-rivals Newcastle West at the Gaelic Grounds, a fixture moved to headquarters after Dromcollogher was declared unplayable.  Ian Ryan, who turned down an offer only last month to join the Australian Football League as a rookie, was central to the outcome.

FULL marks to the organising committee of Listowel’s 150th Harvest Festival to announce a reduction from seven to five days of their festival meeting (although advertisements for the week long event were still running on national radio at the weekend).
It became another victim of the dreadful weather, resulting in the cancellation of all the flat races scheduled for the week and instead have an all National Hunt Festival, which opened yesterday (Tuesday) and continues through until Saturday, in time for Kerry supporters to head to Croke Park for their All-Ireland Senior Football Final showdown with Tyrone.
