A QUALITY Live 95FM Limerick Senior Hurling Final is in store at the Gaelic Grounds on Sunday next (3.30pm) when Adare and Ahane contest the 113th such decider.
Although Ahane head the roll-of-honour with 19 titles, one ahead of Patrickswell, it’s the defending champions Adare that have been installed as favourites to win the championship and repeat their back-to-back wins of 2001 and ’02.  Adare struggled somewhat in their quarter-final joust with Western Gaels but were much improved for their defeat of fancied Kilmallock in the last round.

Niall Moran led the scoring way, once again, in Ahane’s sometimes hard-fought victory against Garrsypillane, scoring an impressive nine points, which brings his seasonal tally to a superb 3-40.  Ahane had been cruising but allowed the 2005 winners far too much leeway in the closing stage as their once handsome lead stood at just three points at the end.
Donal Enright of Dromin/Athlacca will officiate at his first senior final, having served a long apprenticeship.
An exciting minor final is also on the cards with last year’s champions Patrickswell up against Na Piarsaigh (1.45pm). Young Trevor Mann has been appointed as match official.
In between games, children from Ahane and Adare will showcase their skills in the Primary Game.  And at half-time in the senior game, Limerick’s All-Ireland winning minor hurling team of 1958 will be introduced to the crowd.
