The semi-final line-up in the Live 95FM Limerick Senior Football Championship is now complete – double-chasing Adare will run-up against Ballylanders and Dromcollogher/Broadford against Monaleen, with both ties penciled-in for the weekend after next. Holders Fr. Casey's exited from the championship with their 1-7 to 0-7 loss to Adare at Dromcollogher. At the interval, the team's were tied – 1-2 to 0-4, with the goal credited to Fionan Kelliher of Adare. The defending champions were second-best, however, for the homeward journey as the eventual winners lofted over some delightful points, none more so than those through Peter Lavin, Conor Fitzgerald and Aidan O'Rahilly, who had started-out in goal before switched to attack. Stephen Lavin is still an enforced absentee for Adare, but the Maiguesiders are optimistic that their inter-provincial ace will reappear before all is done and dusted in the Blue Riband of club football on Shannonside. The outcome represents a major blow for the defending champions, who were seeking to retain their title in what is a very special year for the club, the centenary of their founder, Fr. Casey's, death. The second qualification spot from Group One was secured by Monaleen, who followed-up on their mid-way floodlit win over Adare with success against St. Kieran's at Fitzgerald Park in Kilmallock. Jason O'Brien grabbed 1-2 for the winners, for whom Mike Crowley landed four points and Patrick Keating three in a comfortable 1-11 to 0-7 victory. Monaleen were ahead 1-6 to 0-4 at the short whistle, after an opening half in which the teams were tied on three occasions. All-Star contender Brian Geary missed the fixture with a suspected cruciate ligament injury, and is now most unlikely to feature any more this season. At Caherconlish, Ballylanders went on a goal scoring spree as they trounced Mungret 6-19 to 1-7. Johnny Murphy enjoyed his most profitable outing in many a day, helping himself to an incredible 2-6, with younger brother Jimmy-Barry, Pat Fox, Eoin Walsh, Steven Fox and substitute Ger Aherne also in on the goal-scoring act. The contest was over by half-time, when the south side had sailed into an unassailable 4-12 to 0-1 advantage. Dromcollogher/Broadford qualified for their eight consecutive semi-final with a thrilling 1-11 to 2-7 defeat of Pallasgreen in Kimallock, an outcome that booked the westerners second position in Group Two. Aidan Shanahan crashed home an equalising goal for Pallas' with ten minutes left (2-4 to 1-7), but Michael Reidy, John O'Kelly and Jason Ryan responded with excellent points at the other end. Brave Pallasgreen closed the gap to the narrowest in stoppage time before time ran out. The relegation final involves St. Kieran's and Mungret. |
