Five of the six sweep finals at the Markets Field on Saturday were won by local owners.

There were two finals for the A2 grade, one of them being for back graders and in this Fastaway Star (3) and Troys Honcho (2) both started well.

The former owned by Dan Flynn in Meelick and trained by Denis P O’Malley, faded on the run-in and it was Ballycahane Sky (4) who came through to win by a length and a half for Croom owner, Patrick Fitzgerald.

Trained by Neilus O’Connell of Fedamore, Ballycahane Sky (Larkhill Jo-Christys Girl) won in 28.92 from Troys Honcho, owned by J Cahill and D Moloney.

The spoils in the other A2 went to the O’Sullivan husband and wife team from Knocklong, Carmel and that peerless trainer Michael.

He sent in Claires Yaris (Honcho Classic-Glenoak Nikita) in top condition and she hit the front at the fourth bend. From there she made the rest to have her sixth win in eleven races when scoring by three parts of a length in 28.95 from Michael Wren’s, Tarbert, owned, Everyonewantsme (4) who did not start all that well but finished strongly.

There was a very impressive win in the novice 2 by Brett Black (Brett Lee-Ham Ram). He was very fast away from trap one and he made every yard when drawing clear of his rivals to be a seven lengths winner in 28.96 for Dermot Doolan of Clarina and trainer Pat Conway.

Blackberry Star (2), owned by Daniel Pio Grace of Pallasgreen was third when finishing well after being baulked at the first bend.

Another Pallasgreen owner, Jonathan Deere, was also out of luck when his Bushy Lass (2) showed good early pace in the A3 final. But she was baulked at the first bend and Bohemian Belle (5), owned by the Deeogee syndicate from Templeglantine and trained by Denis O’Malley was also baulked after being away briskly from trap five.

But trainer O’Malley was not to be outdone and Dalcash Alonso (6) hit the front at the second bend. From there he was always in front and went on to win for city owner, Mrs Jackie O’Neill by five lengths in 29.07.

Despite being fast away from trap one in the A4 final, Gorgeous Ruby, owned by the Miway syndicate of Oola, had to be content with second place, beaten six lengths by the 28.52 winner, in the A4 final.

Feohanagh owner, John Joe Barrett, must have been pleased with the run by his Killila Scot (Disguised-Appletown Katie) in the A4 final. Showing good early pace he led at the first bend from Cragaknock Crew (6) and then made all for a four lengths win in 29.12.
