Two county Limerick trainers supplied the winners of the main events at Limerick on Saturday when in excess of €20,000 in prize money was on offer.

The torrential rain which fell for most of the day kept many patrons away but there was still a good crowd for the annual meeting staged by the Limerick and Clare Owners and Breeders Association. The biggest prize, €5,000, was on offer for the final of the Con Kirby Memorial A0 Sweep over 550 yards.

Trainer John Rainsford from Caherconlish sent in the English owned winner, Adamant Bear (Larkhill Jo-Gragage Comet) who was winning for the fourth time in nine starts.

He finished well to beat the Neilus O’Connell, Fedanore, trained, Razldazl Denys (4) by half a length in 30.38 with Breege McNamara’s Mulcair Storm (2), a length back, third.

Oola trainer, John Hayes, had reason to be pleased with the win by Had I Time (Droopys Kewell-Rising Singer). He won for the fifth time in 27 starts when making all for the Gleeson clan in the Christy Daly Memorial A1 decider which had €1, 500 for the winner.

The Jack McGann-owned Mat The Rasher (1) finished second only a length behind the 28.95 winner with Corporate Group (2)  third two lengths more adrift. Six of the other winners earned €1,000 for their owners.

Thomas Sheehan’s Zahunda (Larkhill Jo-Patricias Dream) won for the third time in four starts, taking the GOBA sponsored A5 final in 29.07 with Gus O’Keeffe’s Lubagh Sailor (5), third.

Fedamore trainer, Neilus O’Connell, had success in the A3 final, over 550 yards, when Top Jamella (Jamella Prince-Glenbeg Lizzy) scored by half a length in 30.42

The Track Bookmakers sponsored Novice 2 Final saw Carhugar Bobsie (Premier County-Blondie Lotto) beating the Bridge Five syndicate-owned Maldinis Five (1) by four lengths in 29.34. The winner is owned by the Clare Connections syndicate from Sixmilebridge.

Molly Keane’s Cradles Lady (3) who won in 29.22 the previous week had to be content with second place in the A2 final, three and a half lengths behind the 28.99 winner.

Ireland’s oldest trainer, Michael O’Sullivan from Elton, Knocklong, supplied the winner of the Rainbow School Of Motoring A0 Over 300. Ronan’s Rocket, (Crash-Emmerdale Susan), owned by Master Ronan O’Donovan of Kilteely, who equalled the track record of 16.06 in the semi-final, again flew from traps. He made all for a three lengths win in 16.15 from Patsy McCarthy’s, Adare (4), trained by Denis O’Malley. There was a tremendous finish to the Limerick Brakes over 550 yards. It was the closest final for some time with Snowy Hill (4) and Saleen Knight (5) crossing the line together in a dead heat.
